This bronze pax representing the Crucifixion was probably made in the early 16th century North Italy. It was acquired by Dr. Hildburgh in Madrid in 1915. The device on the plinth is perhaps the badge of some local Memento Mori fraternity.

Pax the crucixion, bronze. North Italian early 16th century.
Physical description
Pax in bronze depicting the Crucifixion. The cross stands between the Virgin and St. John. At its foot is a skull and a shield bearing a small cross. Architectural border, the upper half of which is arched and surmounted by a cherub.
