This medal depicting Louis XIV, King of France, the 'Sun King' and his mother Anne of Austria is made by Jean Warin.
Warin (1606-1672) was a French sculptor, medallist and painter and the most eminent of French medallists and a sculptor of high reputation during the first half of the 17th century, and a very important player in the history of the French medal. He was born in Liège, where he trained in the workshop of his father. His medals show a clarity of composition based on studies of the Antique, as well as a great finesse in their execution.

Medal depicts on the obverse bust to right of Louis XIV, wearing a lace-collar and a scarf over armour. Inscription.
On the reverse the bust to right of Anne of Austria, wearing a widow's cap with a long veil falling over her shoulders and pinned with a brooch on the breast. Inscription.
