This apron is made by the US architect Louis Henry Sullivan (1856-1924) in ca. 1884. The apron formed a frieze under a window of the top storey of the facade of the Scoville building. It comprises of three vertical compartments which are decorated with stylised flower ornament in the shape of a fan. The Scoville Building, later SSA-Payment Center in Chicago, has since been demolished.
