The medal depicts on the obverse the bust of Pope Alexander VIII, Pietro Ottoboni, and on the reverse an elevation of the monument to his memory in St. Peter's.

Pietro Ottoboni was elected Pope in 1689.

REVERSE OF MEDAL OF POPE ALEXANDER VII (Pietro Ottoboni, 1610-91; pope from 1689) Italian (Rome); signed ‘S.V’ dated 1700 Gilt bronze By Ferdinand De Saint-Urbain (1658-1738) The medal shows the elaborate monument to the Pope, after a design by Count Carlo Arrigo san Martino. This was one of a number of complex papal tombs in St Peter’s, such as those designed earlier by Bernini for Urban VII and Alexander VII. The tomb was built between 1696 and 1725, so this medal shows it during planning. (1993 - 2011)
