This medal depicts the bust of Francesco Taverna (1488-1560), who became Count of Landriano in 1536 and it is made by Pietro Paolo Galeotti (d. 1584).

Galeotti from near Rome (1520-1584) was a pupil of Benvenuto Cellini and settled in Florence around 1552 and entered into the Florentine mint in ca. 1557. He became a very prolific medallist and has produced ca. 80 known pieces.

Medal depicts on the obverse the bust of Taverna, bearded, wearing a loose gown over a tunic. Inscription. On the reverse a landscape with a town, and ruins in the foreground. In front to the right, a hound seated, looking up at the constellation of the Goat. Inscription.
