Richard Cockle Lucas (1800-1883) is best known for his small-scale sculptures in ivory and wax, of which the Museum has a extensive collection. These works are complemented by this signed marble relief of Thomas Willis Fleming which, according to the inscription, was 'Given by him to Caroline his wife on her birthday 1853'. No information has yet been found on the sitter Thomas Willis Fleming.
