This marble head is of a classical type with hair almost entirely covered by a scarf. Below her throat she is wearing a low frilled collar.

This bust was in the collection of Lord Boston and possibly formerly belonged to his ancestor Sir William Irby.
Despite the signature there is nothing stylistically to suggest that this is the work of Roubiliac.

Physical description
White marble head on a black marble base. The head is of a classical type. The hair is almost covered by a scarf. Below the throat there is a low frilled collar. Incised at the back 'ROUBILIAC SC'. The black marble base is badly chipped.

Object history
In the collection of Lord Boston in 1928, and possibly formerly owned by his ancestor Sir William Irby. In the possession of Alfred Spero, from whom it was acquired by Dr Hildburgh F.S.A. together with its companion bust in 1944. Given to the Museum with A.1-1944 by Dr W.L Hildburgh as a New Years' Gift in 1944.
