This medal depicting Peter the Great is made by Jean Dassier (1676-1763) in Switzerland, in ca. 1740.
It is from a series of medals depicting famous men.

Physical description

Obverse: a half-length portrait in profile to the right of Peter the Great in armour with a legend.
Reverse: a figure of Neptune seated in the centre and facing and pointing to a fleet of ships on the left. Seated to his right of the medal with a shield on which is the head of Medusa. A legend around the top rim of the medal.
