This medal depicts César, Duc de Vendôme (1594-1665), natural son of Henri IV. It is made by Jean Darmand, also called L'Orphelin in the 17th century.
The commemorative portrait medal was particularly high regarded in France during the first half of the 17th century.

Physical description
Medal depicts on the obverse the bust to right of Vendôme, wearing a scarf over armour. Inscription, which is continued on the reverse.
On the reverse a shield of arms surrounded by the collars of the orders of St. Michael and the Holy Ghost. The whole placed on a duke's mantle surrounded by a coronet. Inscription.
