This statuette representing the Captitoline wolf suckling Romulus and Remus was probably made in the middle of the 15th century Italy. This subject was adopted in the Middle Ages as an emblem of the city of Siena and this statuette depends from a representation common on coins in which the wolf is shown with head turned back licking one of the seated children.
