This medal depicts Pope Paul III, Alessandro Farnese (b. 1466-1549). He was Pope from 1534 till his death in 1549 and an important patron of the Arts. It is made by Alessandro Cesati, who was working about 1538-1564.

Physical description | This medal depicts on the obverse the bust to the left of Paul, bearded, wearing a cope. Inscription. On the reverse Alexander, wearing helmet and cuirass, kneeling before the High Priest of Jerusalem, who points to a temple in the background. Behind Alexander are two armed men holding a horse, the head of which is just seen. With the high Priest three other bearded old men. Inscription. |
