This bronze medal depicts Pope Julius III, bareheaded, bearded and wearing a cope. On the reverse side Atlas is shown kneeling on one knee and supporting on his shoulders the globe of the Heavesn with signs of the Zodiac.
The medal is similar to another in the collection (number A.318-1910) although the present example is signed with the initials F.M.L on the obverse side.
Julius III was Pope from 1550 to 1555, a period characterised by inactivity and a failure to bring about reform.
