This medal, representing an Italian poet Jacopo Sannazaro (b. 1458-d. 1530), was made by Girolamo Santacroce (b. 1498-d. 1533) in the 16th century Italy. The reverse of this medal depicting Nativity is in allusion to Sannazaro's poem.

Physical description

Obv., head of Jacopo Sannazaro crowned with laurel. Rev., the Nativity with the Virgin and St. Joseph, and the Child between them. Above angels.
