Relief
ca. 1470 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This relief of the Virgin and Child with the Infant Baptist and an Angel has been attributed to Bartolommeo Bellano, and potentially made in Padua in ca. 1470. The composition is known in a number of variants, not all of which date to the period.

Bellano (ca. 1434-1496/7) was a native of Padua where he is assumed to have been a member of Donatello's Paduan studio. He followed Donatello to Florence, where he collaborated on the reliefs that form part of the San Lorenzo pulpits, which were late works by the master.
