This marble relief depicts the adoration of the shepherds, in a frame of boxwood and other woods. In the middle, the Virgin Mary reclines watching the baby Jesus who lies in a basket-work crib before her, while at her feet an angel kneels and a shepherd looks over her right shoulder. To the right there is a shepherd approaching with his dog while behind him while another feeds the ox and ass from a manger. On the left a shepherd is shown kneeling at the head of the crib while another stands behind him and above there are rays issuing from a semicricle of clouds in which fly two putti.

Alabaster relief, depicting the Adoration of the Shepherds, in a frame of boxwood and other woods. In the middle, the Virgin reclines watching the Child who lies in a basket-work crib before her; at her feet kneels an angel while one shepherd looks over her right shoulder; to the right a shepherd approaches with his dog while behind him another feeds the ox and ass from a manger; to the left a shepherd kneels at the head of the crib while another stands behind him. Above there are rays issuing from a semicricle of clouds in which fly two putti.

Measured by SCP (LS) and FTF (DH) for Europe 1600-1800 on 3/1/2013. Previously recored height of 11 inches was taken at the time of the relief's acquisition in 1933.
Marks and inscriptions
GBW (George Brenck the Younger used the same monogram signature as his father. However, the date of 1638 confirms that it refers here to the son, as the father died in 1635.)
