This panel is made by Mallet in Paris in ca. 1855. The panel, which was intended to form part of a cover for an album, was bought from the Parisian firm of Mallet, who apparently specialised in decorative work in ivory in the mid-nineteenth century.

Physical description

A cross in ivory is framed with strapwork decoration in pierced ivory, set against a tortoiseshell backing.
