Originally painted, this group would have formed part of an altarpiece of the Passion of Christ.

Physical description
The tomb is shown in perspective, and is decorated with three roundels, the two in front having figures of praying angels, that at the end a soldier. Christ, naked, except for a loin cloth, and wearing a crown of thorns, is being lowered into the tomb by Nicodemus, and Joseph of Arimathea. The Virgin stands between them. St. Mary Magdalene kneels at the foot of the tomb.
