This medal made by L. C. Wyon after Sir J. E. Boehm and Sir Frederick Leighton commemorates the Golden Jubilee of the Reign of Queen Victoria. This was the official jubilee medal, the issue of which began on 18 July 1887 and continued until 26 February 1889. No difference can be detected between the medals struck in any of these years. The gold and silver specimens were struck at the Royal Mint but owing to pressure of work the bronze was sub-contracted to Messrs Ralph Heaton of Birmingham.
