This statue representing the Virgin and Child is loosely associated with works by Nino Pisano, and was possibly carved at Pisa in the 14th century. It is much damaged and restored. The right hand and wrist of the Virgin are modern replacements, and the forehead and top of the head are made up in composition. The paint surface has been extensively renewed and distressed.
