Place of origin |
This ivory statuette representing Juno is made by the South Netherlandish (Antwerp) artist Ambrosius Gallé in ca. 1730-50.
This playful, proto-rococo piece may have been commissioned for the Court at Munich, where Gallé was based after his return from Rome in 1729. Its flowing sinuous movement and sensual quality recall Baur's Orpheus and Eurydice (mus. no. A.49-1926).
