Place of origin |
This is sketch-model, which is apparently Roman and seems to date from the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century. It is probably a model for a larger marble group.
The group, which is modelled in one with its architectural plinth, shows St. Anne seated, pointing with her right hand to the pages of an open volume which she supports with her left hand on her left knee. She gazes down towards the Virgin, who stands with hands clasped to her right. Hollowed out at the back.
