This terracotta statuette from the late 15th century has been generally considered to be Florentine, and has been associated with the workshop of Verrocchio. However it seems more likely that is was produced in Emilia under the influence of Speradino. There are traces of priming and slight remains of colour and gilding.

Physical description | This statuette represents Saint Sebastian, who is standing in front of a tree trunk wearing elaborate armour, his body swayed to the left, his left hand tied behind his back and his right above his head. His face is framed by curling hair, slightly looking upwards. The weight rests on his right leg. The cuirass is decorated with a Medusa head and classical ornament. |
