Virgin of the Assumption

Statuette
1700-1750 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This statuette representing the Virgin of the Assumption, is signed by a sculptor called Giovanni Brustolon. The signature on the back seems to have been incised before firing, and though it refers to an otherwise unrecorded sculptor, there is a presumption that the indication of authorship is correct. The style of the figure is consistent with an origin in Venice or the Venetian terra ferma in the first half of the eighteenth century.
