ca. 1779 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This Höchst porcelain figure was modeled by Johann Peter Melchior around 1779, just before he left the Höchst factory for Frankenthal. Although the figure holds a number of wallpaper samples, he is dressed in a wig and fine clothing, and he probably therefore represents a liveried servant at the Electoral court of Mainz. The production moulds for this figure were reused during the 19th century for making earthenware figures in Damm, and during the 20th century for porcelain figures made at Passau.
