41. Dish: Chaldean Designed by John Armstrong (British 1893-1973) Made by Arthur J. Wilkinson Ltd., under the direction of Clarice Cliff (British 1899-1956), Burslem, Great Britain, about 1934 Earthenware, painted Circ.436-1975 Armstrong was one of the group of established painters who designed for Wilkinson in the 1920s and '30s. The design is a free interpreation of a Mesopotamian motif, executed in a manner which combines the flattened, linear quality of its souce with similar simplifications found also in Armstrong's paintings.'
