This and 31:2-1996 are the wings belonging to the centre part of the Triptych [243-1867].
On the left wing are the scenes of the Annunciation, the Visitation and the Annunciation to the Shepherds. On the right is Herod instructing his soldiers and the Massacre of the Innocents. The central panel [V&A- Mus-no: 243-1867] shows the Nativity below and the Crucifixion above; and in the gable at the top Christ is shown presiding over the Last Judgement.

Object history
Acquired from the Museums & Galleries Commission, together with another wing [31:2-1996], following their acceptance in lieu of Inheritance Tax from Luton Hoo (Estate of Lady Anastasia Wernher) by the Secretary of State for National Heritage. The wings complete a Triptych of which 243-1867 is the central panel.
