This is a bottle made by François-Désiré Froment-Meurice in Paris, 1854. This bottle is in rock crystal mounted in silver and silver gilt, enamelled and set with rubies and Baroque pearls. The body of this bottle is rectagular cut with oblique grooves, spreading nect and circular foot. The mounting comprises sprays of enamelled foliage bearing pearls of various shapes and colours, tied by a ribbon enamelled in black and set in rubies, and nect and foot-mounts enamelled in black.
By mounting a rock crystal vessel with silver decorated with arabesque, François-Désiré Froment-Meurice is imitating the mounted rock crystals produced by Renaissance goldsmiths for court collections. The lush foliage decoration and the form of the bottle are, however, wholly characteristic of the 1850s and look forward to his son's later mounting of glass by Gallé.
