Cup

ca. 1840 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This ivory cup or goblet is probably made in ca. 1840 and is carved with putti playing amongst foliage. Its clumsy style of carving and unusual form, the oval cup resting on three globular feet, suggest it is a pastiche of earlier work of the seventeenth century. It may have been carved in France, perhaps Dieppe.
