Physical description | Library table: Mahogany veneered with sabicu wood, with applied carvings also in sabicu. Of pedestal form, either pedestal having on both sides a cupboard door, all of them with an applied carving representing the staff of Aesculapius. The cupboard doors are flanked by caryatid figures supporting the frieze, carved in relief with emblems symbolic of Architecture, Music, Comedy, Tragedy, Peace, War, Medicine and Literature. The panels at both ends have applied carvings of two female figures in classical dress joining hands over a lyre with a wreath. The frieze, which contains three drawers on either side, is decorated in applied carving with foliage, turned round a rod punctuated at intervals by rosettes. The top covered with green morocco decorated with gilt tooling. |
