The combination of gold, deep blue enamel and seed pearls was a fashionable one in the years around 1800. These earrings illustrate the renewed vigour of the French jewellery trade in the years following Napoleon's accession. Their delicacy is perhaps partly a reflection of the shortage of raw materials for jewellery.

| Physical description | Narrow hoop of gold, the front section of which is wrapped round with a spiralling strip of blue enamel, and seed pearls threaded on wire, with a blue-enamelled bead at each end. The earring opens above the upper enamelled bead and has a small loop at the top which would be behind the ear when worn. |
