GROUP OF CHESSMEN Germany (Coburg) about 1860 red and green terracotta These chessman, given to the Museum by Prince Albert, from part of a full set of thirty-two. They may have been influenced by a Gothic chess set designed for the Wedgwood factory in 1783 by the English sculptor and designer John Flaxman (1755- 1826) Given by H.R.H The Prince Consort(1987-2006)
