Anders Ruhwald graduated from the Royal Colelge of Art in London in 2005. He currently lives and works at Cranbrook Academy of Art outside of Detroit, USA. He has had more than 20 solo exhibitions in teh last ten years in museums and galleries around the world. He has also won numerous prestigeous awards for his contribution to contemporary ceramics.
This piece 'You and I #4' is from the exhibition Frictions, first displayed in Rowlandcontemporary, Chicago, USA, 2005. The white glazed form froma distance seems to float in mid air, until further inspection finds its sitting atop these tall slim yellow fiberglass legs. The Danish-born Ruhwald makes art that is "a meditation on utility, the history of ceramics and object-hood", creating ceramic forms that focus largely on the perception of the domestic object, evoking a dream-like scenario around these obejcts.
