Tevita Havea (born in Tonga) is one of the most interesting young glass artists working in Australia today. Tevita's work combines simple blown forms with the traditional Tongan crafts of weaving and wood carving. Both the materials and the organic shapes refer to ancient Tongan beliefs and traditions. Gatekeeper is symbolic of the passage between life and after-life.
