Object history
The name of an early owner is inscribed on the base of the bowl. The bowl was acquired by the Museum in 1866, when it was identified as Spanish or Portuguese. By 1872 this opinion had been revised to French, an attribution confirmed by the identification of the maker's mark 'YP' to a French goldsmith in the 1950s.
