1690-1710 (made)

Place of origin |
Border of needlelace. Long dress robing of point d'Argentella. This has been cut from a larger piece. It has a rococo design of birds, namely a phoenix, peacock and parrot, perched on rocks or amongst curving foliage. One edge has been cut to make it straight with the result that the pattern is upside down with the lower, scalloped edge above the birds. The parts of the pattern are worked in fine needlepoint with a variety of fillings and outlined with a raised cordonnet. The fine ground is of diamonds set within a ground of delicate lines.
