REDGRAVE A.R.A." in cartouche and the initials "CLS" intertwined, enamelled. Made in Bohemia

Gallery label
A 'caraffe and glass' were advertised by Henry Cole's Summerly's Art Manufactures in December of 1847 for 17/6d (£0.87p). The decoration, 'appropriate' to a water-carafe, illustrates the principles for improving design advocated by such reformers as Henry Cole. Redgrave was a painter who did several designs for Henry Cole.
