Place of origin |
Needle lace border of point d'Alençon. Vandyked border. The edge is outlined with linked heart-shaped leaves, and a large flower-head hangs down from the delicate leafy stem that curves above each vandyke. The main part of the ground is decorated with six rows of leaves. The border is grounded with a looped Alençon ground, and whipped over to form hexagonal meshes. The vandyked edging is filled with a simple Alençon ground worked on a smaller scale. The pattern pieces are in plain buttonholing worked over a laid thread and are outlined with a raised buttonholed thread. The raised outlines along the lower edge are decorated with picots. The centres of the large flower-heads are decorated with a lattice filling and there are tiny areas of decorative mesh in leaves along the lower edge. The border is attached to a bobbin lace footing.
