This piece is from a group of lace acquired by the Museum in 1884. The Erzgebirge mountains are on the border of Germany and the Czech Republic and were the centre of a small lace industry in the nineteenth century. Lace-makers in Erzgebirge worked both bobbin lace in traditional patterns, and fashionable needle lace like this piece.
