Bought in Cairo for the South Kensington Museum (today the V&A), by Stanley Lane-Poole

Descriptive line

One of 170 tiles with different floral and geometrical patterns, some forming a kibleh to point out the direction of Mecca. From Cairo. Bought as 'South Italian, 18th (?) century' but more probably Tunisian, 19th century. 1231:127, 134, 144 and 146-1883 framed together as a panel.
