Bowl

17th century (made)
Place of origin

Bowl painted in 2 grey-blues. Four trunks of pine trees act as dividers on the outside of the bowl. Each section encloses hillocks built of filaments, winter and summer trees, balustrades and birds, bunches of hairy leaves, a bunch of cactus leaves, rounded flowers resembling sectioned tree trunks, dashes and dots. A band of overlapping rounded panels leads to the base ring. The inner rim band is divided into six sections by tree trunks. Each section contains elements similar to those on the outside with the addition of a leafy double branch and the odd lion. The well is plain. In the centre thre tree trunks appears to become a winding path or a river from which rises a winter tree which bends over two birds in flight. Features similar to those on the outside fill the rest of the roundel. The tree trunks on the outside of the bowl are angled as if they were sections of a larger scroll continuing beyond the edges of the bowl.
