Dish of lead-glazed earthenware transfer-printed in black and over-painted with black and red enamels. Oval with a lobed and moulded rim. Painted in the middle with the Arms of James Brydges, Marquis of Caernarvon, with supporters, coronets and motto 'MAIN-TIEN LE DROIT'. On the rim is the crest printed, and painted with sprays of flowers in red.

Object history | One of two dishes with C.801-1935. The Marquis (1731-1789) married Margaret Nicol (d.1768) in 1753, whose arms are shown on an escutcheon. He succeeded as third Duke of Clandos in 1771. |
