Many versions of this moulded tile were sold from the 1860s onwards, in both Iran and Europe, often together with a tile depicting a falconer on horseback. The art-dealer Ferdinand Méchin stated that the group had been found in the ruins of Farahabad, the Isfahan palace of Safavid Shah Abbas II (1642-66), but others were not convinced.
