Physical description

Plate of light brown earthenware painted in purple, green and yellow on a ground of white slip. Lead-glaze on the front. In the middle is a spray of formal leaves and dot-rosettes, surrounded by concentric-circles, and a zigzag border with dots. Two holes pierced through the edge of the foot.

Extract from letter received from Major Slatineanu - I enclose the list of the plates which have reached you with the names of the regions they came from. As they have been mostly collected by me directly from the peasant which used them sometime ago, I can be nearly sure of their place of origin. (The numbers on this list are those chalked on the back of each piece.)
