Physical description

Bowl of orange-brown earthenware painted in brown and copper-green on a ground of white slip. The front is lead-glazed. Brown spiral in the centre with groups of green and brown loops round the edge.

Extract from letter received from Major Slatineanu - I enclose the list of the plates which have reached you with the names of the regions they came from. As they have been mostly collected by me directly from the peasant which used them sometime ago, I can be nearly sure of their place of origin. (The numbers on this list are those chalked on the back of each piece.)
