Place of origin

Plate of soft-paste porcelain painted in enamels and gilded. The sides are fluted internally and the rim is scalloped. Decorated with a border composed of heart-shaped panels alternating with narrow panels of double-curved outline, each occupying two flutes of the plate and outlined with gilt rococo scrollwork. The heart-shaped panels have a central motive of a gilt oval rosette which in one panel is surrounded with gilt leaf-sprays springing from it, and in the next is set in a diaper of purple lozenges with crosses at the intersections, on a light blue ground. The double-curved panels are filled alternately with a herring-bone design on a pink ground and an all-over design of larger and small rings on a mauve ground. Underneath each is an insect painted in colours. In the centre is an exotic bird in a landscape with a tree in the foreground and a river-scene behind.
