From 1960 Shirley Craven (b.1934) worked as a design and colour consultant for the avant-garde textile manufacturers, Hull Traders Ltd and in 1963 became a director of the firm. She is noted for her strong, abstract designs several of which received Council of Industrial Design Awards in the 1960s. She taught textile design at Goldsmiths College from the early 1960s until 1994.
Hull Traders Ltd of Trawden, Colne, Lancashire, was founded in 1957 by Tristram Hull to produce short runs of screen-printed furnishing fabrics. In 1980 the company became part of Badehome Ltd which was dissolved in 1982.
