Kings and Queens of England

Card Game
1901-1910 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Games have been used to promote companies since about 1900. Some games, such as race games, lend themselves to appearing on packaging. Others may be included as free gifts or offered as ‘send-away’ items. Most advertising tends to be food related. Card games are a perfect vehicle for advertising. This game is played like Happy Families. The aim is to collect ‘families’ of monarchs from William I (ruled 1066–87) to Edward VII (ruled 1901–10). The backs of the cards advertise the Mazawattee Tea Company.
