Place of origin

Compound twill, silk piece that has been cut, on one side, to form a border for the neck of a tunic. Byzantine or Egyptian, ca. AD700-1000. Designs woven in black/dark brown on cream background. There are some faded red thread stitched roughly along one side. The design is of geometric shapes enclosing rosettes and connected by angular foliated stems.
