Place of origin

Four fragments of woven linen cloth and silk. Egypt, Mamluk, ca. AD1250-1500. The linen is a tabby weave; approx. 30x23 tpc (sys 1 x sys 2); undyed and slightly glazed. The decoration is in coloured silk (red, light and dark blue, yellow and black). Zig-zagged lines of red form diamonds and within the diamonds is a stylised icon of a bird? A row of birds within circles lies between some of the diamonds. It is bordered on either side with red lines and black oval like motifs. In one corner of the linen is a 10mm x 10mm woven square where a thick linen thread has been woven over two warps and under one to create a mark of some sort. The pieces are slightly stained and with holes. Similar to T.138B- 1935.
