Dress fabric of brocaded silk. With a loom width of 20.25 inches (51.4 cms) with additional borders of silk with a cream ground brocaded with simple, stylised and isolated floral sprays in rose red, green, yellow and buff silk and silver thread (the latter is tarnished). The silver thread is used for the large stylised flowerheads which appear in alternate rows.
The pattern is brocaded and bound in 3 / 1 twill with a binding warp which normally forms part of the ground weave.

Historical context
The pattern may be compared in style with several designs by Anna Maria Garthwaite 5970.23, 5970.10, 5970.26 and 5970.7 all dating from 1726-7 in her set of designs 'Before I came to London'. There are also embroideries in this style at this date. The large brocaded flower is similar to this on lace patterns of this date.
